What if your path to well-being was like a symphony—each habit, nutrient, and choice an essential note in a greater masterpiece? In this special video, Dr. Beth Bartlett uses the elegance of the harp to illustrate a powerful metaphor: You are the conductor of your own wellness journey.
With warmth and wisdom, Dr. Beth unpacks how small, intentional changes—better sleep, mindful hydration, gut health, and more—combine to create a life that’s not just functional, but flourishing. Press play below to watch her bring this concept to life, one resonant string at a time.
VIDEO: Being the Conductor of Your Wellness Journey
Video Transcript:
Take the harp, for example. This morning, I want to discuss the idea of being the conductor of your own wellness journey.
As your guide, I like to think of this journey as an experience—an excursion, almost like traveling or dining at a restaurant. It’s a collective experience. The atmosphere, the food, the company—all these elements come together to create something meaningful. Similarly, if you envision wellness as a symphony, each component has its own vital part. But when you combine them, that’s where the magic happens.
I don’t know if you can see, but this is one of the first pieces I ever learned on the harp. My hands move in opposite directions—the treble clef descending while the bass clef rises. It took me a long time to master that coordination.
Now, think of your life, your health, your well-being as a symphony—and you are the conductor. In wellness programming, we might suggest PMF, better hydration, magnesium, or improved sleep habits and hygiene. When you bring all these elements together, your “song” grows richer and more harmonious. When I first started playing, my song was… well, rough. But now, it’s a pleasant little tune. This piece is called In the Month of May (fitting, since we’re almost there), and you can hear that light, cheerful melody coming together.
So, adopt the mindset that you are the conductor of your wellness symphony. Each instrument—each habit, each choice—plays its own part. As you add more layers, your experience improves, and so does your performance. We might recommend a multivitamin, magnesium, or fish oil. We might emphasize tending to your microbiome—the trillions of microorganisms in your gut that influence your brain and overall health. The connections go on and on.
Remember: This is a collective effort, and you are the conductor. We’re simply the composers, offering guidance along the way.
